Like many Christian churches that baptize infants, the Lutheran church has a rite of
"confirmation". This rite provides a mechanism for older children to be received
and welcomed as full members of the congregation. Confirmation involves a public
affirmation of Christian faith, which means that confirmands need to have a certain
level of maturity and training. Lutheran churches have always held confirmation
and associated instruction to be an important life passage.
At Holy Trinity, confirmation classes are taught by the Pastor and normally begin when
a student reaches 7th grade. The classes meet during the educational hour at
9:15 AM on Sundays over a 2 year period (no classes during the summer). The rite
of confirmation then occurs during a special worship service when a student is nearing
the end of 8th grade. Older youth are welcome if they did not start confirmation
instruction at the start of 7th grade.
Please
contact Pastor Simmons if you'd like to talk
about enrolling your child in confirmation class. It is not necessary that you
be a member of the church for your child to enroll.
